News from the Farm

The promise of things to come

Richard Stensrud - Wednesday, June 01, 2016

Early summer is a busy time on the farm—the days have been filled with activity. We are in the process of installing some retaining walls along trails and on the south shore of the pond, but because of all the rain this spring we are far behind.

I did plant 300 strawberries along one wall and hope to have some good easy picking next year. We also are installing an acre of elderberries. That work has been dancing around the rain as well.

Our three Dorper sheep are heavy with lamb so there should be news about additions to the farm family soon.

The last bit of news is the arrival of four little pigs. They are Kurobuta pigs which, by Japanese definition, are black Berkshires, noted for their outstanding taste.

My goal is to produce a number of the best tasting products possible. Fruit trees, strawberries, pork, chicken and lamb are the present projects, but nothing is ready to eat yet.
